Hifidelity4urmind

This account is just for me to be honest, and it will no doubt be lost in the noise, but I started it today, just to relax my brain, in a positive way by focusing on good music & HiFidelity. My first proper HiFi purchase when I was around 14 yrs old in the early 80’s were a pair of headphones. I asked the shop owner what headphones he had and he showed me 2 new pairs. One were a pair of AKG 240’s and the others were a more expensive and fancier-looking headphone (can’t remember the brand) but they looked really cool and “high-end” - a term often used to rinse your wallet dry. I asked which were the best and instead of selling me the more expensive ones, he advised me to try them both and compare… “trust your ears lad”. I did and I thought that these cheaper ones (think I paid £28) were much better sounding. He gave me a little smile and told me that he agreed - buzz inside my young mind๐Ÿ˜Š I recently listened to a very expensive system from Audio Note, a highly-regarded blue chip HiFi brand in the UK, worth well over £40k. I played my favourite music and enjoyed the rich tonal quality, the airy mid and high ranges, and it was quite nice for £40k but the bass was flabby - not under control at all… £11k speakers! and on the whole, not that impressive considering yes, the price, but also the overall quality and certainly not what I had expected given the hype around the products. The guy asked for my thoughts and I focused on the things I liked and left.  The Emperor’s New Clothes sprung to mind. I see this hype all the time from people who call themselves audiophiles and experts. They don’t have finely tuned ears that are better than mine or yours, but they do like to try to force their views down our throats and some try to sell you products that aren’t all that. I ignore them and their hype and I always trust my ears, just like I did auditioning these headphones 40 yrs ago๐ŸŽง๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ“ป
